FIRE CONTROL TOWERS on Peaks Island

Two Observation Towers were constructed in 1944 Each 6 stories high, made of concrete. There are 3 observing levels, serving Battery Cravens as the battery commander's station for Battery Steele and as a mine observing station.

The current status of the towers are: unaltered, good condition but doorway and lower windows are sealed with concrete; property of City of Portland.

From the window of each observation deck,
is a view of the surroundong area.
All the observation decks are the same with a window like this.
The other large observation tower, owned by Island Cable TV.
